Landmark n°5. Ex Hotel Mundial, Actual Banco BBVA (Former Mundial Hotel, Current BBVA Bank)
Just like the Stock Exchange building, it is located on the land that used to belong to the Augustinian nuns, inserted in the financial district of Santiago.
The Global Insurance Company bought the land to build its corporate building that was inaugurated in 1923. It stands out for its classical French architecture, a triangular-shaped plant with a dome that crowns the balcony of balustrades on its façade and huge columns.
After twelve years, the building was leased and became the luxurious Hotel Mundial until 1975. After this, the owners decided to change its business category and it has been used as a bank headquarter ever since. Currently, it houses the offices of BBVA Bank.
Just like the Union Club and the Stock Exchange, this building was declared a historical monument in 1981 for providing a remarkable feature to the sector where it is located.
