Landmark n°5. Viña Doña Javiera (Doña Javiera Vineyard)
This vineyard is located on the old ranch San Miguel de El Monte that belonged to the Carrera family, birthplace of the national hero of our motherland, José Miguel and all his relatives.
It has 665 hectares and was declared a historical monument in 1974.
Today it is in hands of the Yávar Correa family, with its wineries, vineyards and parks, all very well preserved and fully equipped to receive tourists. The house has native trees over 250 years-old.
After the Battle of Rancagua, José Miguel Carrera hid with some of his troops in this place, escaping Bernardo O’Higgins. It is believed that he did it by using a tunnel more than a kilometer long that exists between the property and the church. It is believed that here was where doña Javiera Carrera embroidered the first Chilean flag of the Patria Vieja (Old Country).
The fountain in the garden of the residence appeared in the lithography of some of the currency that circulated in the country between 1973 and 1975.
